Is Sustainability a thing?

We take pride in creating tools that not only work well but also look beautiful in your hands. With sustainable packaging and distribution practices, you can trust that Genesis Professional Tools are not only functional but environmentally conscious as well.

But my questions and thoughts are, is sustainability, just the newest buzz word, to try and make us feel better about “doing what we can do” to “save the planet” or do we really just not care? It has been SO hard as a business to scale and reach an audience or demographic that wants to be part of a bigger movement, I think we like the idea of “being the hero” but we can’t be bothered really? Why? because it’s too hard isn’t it? The world as a whole makes it hard to be sustainable in our everyday life, let alone our small businesses, take Primark for instance they have a Primark cares range, that is geared towards sustainable clothing, sustainable work practices, recycling and buying. But the irony is, I don’t think anyone does care lol! Do they? We still shop in primark, knowing that parts of their business are unethical. No one consciously goes into primark to run straight to the Primark cares clothing section, we go to Primark because its cheap - ish, LOL!

So what to do about this stage we seem to be in as humans living on this planet, wanting to protect it and show ourselves WE CAN DO THIS? I mean really what’s the point when Kim Kardashian is flying to parts of the US on her private plane to get DESERT???

Same with Education, it’s a buzz word, but are we really as professionals setting ourselves apart from the rest? or are we trying to “fit in” are we leading from the front, or just “going with the flow”? It’s just not enough in my opinion?

Do we feel like Cady in “Mean Girls” trying to fit in, when we know we need to STAND OUT, not always for the reasons we necessarily want too, but we still need to know that there are professionals out there like us/me that still want professionalism and the ethos of perfectionism and professionalism that a lot of us has worked hard for? We are positioned for such a time as this. To STAND UP for what is right and to better the future as an industry and a personal business.

What about education in our industry? Let me just say what everyone else is thinking….. WTH!!!!!! I feel for the beauty therapists who haven’t have the sufficient education, but OMG, we need to get it together, quick time, there are too many professionals and customers that are suffering on the basis that EVERYONE who “does nails” or “educates” is an ACTUAL professional and adequately trained. I mean, you couldn’t employ an accountant without the adequate credentials, I worked so hard to received my education credentials and certification, but it seems that anyone who has 20K followers on social medial or had as great REEL is an AMAZING educator “apparently”. It’s frustrating, but also makes me sad, that our industry is becoming the “reality TV” of the beauty industry. :-(

Us buying “sustainable” isn’t going to make that much of a difference is it? Or is it, is our attitude towards a new business model the change we need to see, or no?

YES WE CAN
